Return of Tuition and Fees Policy

If an unfortunate withdrawal from the seminary program occurs, we will observe the following return of tuition and fees policy. The Academic year is considered August–May.

Tuition

  • 3⁄4 tuition if student leaves prior to Oct. 15 of the academic year
  • 1⁄2 tuition if student leaves Oct. 15–Dec. 31 of the academic year
  • 1⁄4 tuition if student leaves between Jan. 1–Mar. 15 of the academic year

No tuition refund after Mar. 15th of the academic year.

Room & Board

Fees will be prorated by a 10‐month academic year. STPSU will refund fees from any full month not in residence. (For example, if student leaves November 4, STPSU will refund Dec–May.)

Pastoral Year

If student leaves prior to Dec. 31 of the Pastoral year, 1⁄2 of the Pastoral Year fee will be returned. After Dec, 31, there will be no refund.

Room Deposit

Room deposit will be returned only after the room has passed inspection. All keys must be turned in. There will be a $15 charge for every key not returned, which will be deducted from the Room Deposit.

There will be no refund for Retreat Fees and on‐going Psychological Services Fees.

Sacred Music Program

Tuition

  • $250 per credit hour
  • $150 per year library and registration fee (for MSM and certificate students only)

This means that the 36-credit MSM degree is $9,000 in total for tuition, plus the yearly fee, and instructor fees for applied voice lessons (depending on your location, this may range from approximately $750 to $2,000 per semester). Spread out over the required 3 to 5 years, we encourage students to ask their parishes and schools to support their study.

Room and Board (not required)

  • Room & board package for a 5-day course (Sunday through Friday nights, plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Friday): $600
  • Commuter student lunch package for a 5-day course: $80
  • Commuter student lunch + dinner package for a 5-day course: $180
  • Saturday night room: $65
  • Married student room and board: $1,000 (Sunday to Saturday)
  • Saturday night room (married): $110

* All fees paid with credit card are subject to a processing fee. It is possible to submit payment via check to avoid this fee.

Financial Aid

While no additional financial aid is available, MSM and certificate students can apply for the following:

  • Applied student referral program. Students can support their study through teaching applied students in voice, keyboard, and conducting. Our teacher referral program connects potential students with our graduate students who would like to gain teaching experience in a private-studio environment, either in-person or online.
  • McInnes Scholars in the Choral Institute. Students may competitively apply for a remunerated McInnes Scholar position in the Choral Institute. The position includes a $600 travel stipend and $600 stipend for serving as a section leader. Choral Scholar positions are open to all student and professional musicians, including non-students, so applications are extremely competitive.

Return of Tuition and Fees Policy (Sacred Music)

Tuition

  • 4 Mondays before course starts – Last day to drop, 100% tuition refund.
  • Monday of a 5-day class at 5 p.m. – Last day to drop the course with a 50% tuition refund; thereafter, 0% tuition refund.
  • Thursday of a 5-day class at noon – Last day to withdraw with a withdraw fail (WF), 0% tuition refund.

Room and Board

A partial refund (50%, minus transaction fees charged by the RegFox system) on room and board is available to a student who drops a course on or before the first day of a 5-day course. After the first day of the class (4 p.m.), no refunds are possible. Please note that telling a professor that you wish to drop a course does not affect your registration status and will not trigger the 50% refund on room and board. Official notice of an intention to change registration status must be sent to the Registrar at registrar@stpsu.edu and copy info@catholicinstituteofsacredmusic.org.
